Shankar's I in financial trouble, but aiming Pongal release, New Technology, Bollywood Actor...

Director Shankar together with Chiyaan Vikram has worked out the best magic through the film 'Anniyan', which stands out as the all time favourite of even non-Tamil speaking cohort. Now that the duo has returned back with 'I' , there are mixed reports pertaining to their combination.

After "Anniyan", the success combo Shankar-Vikram is joining hands for the upcoming movie “I”. The movie shooting is happening on a brisk pace for which Aascar Ravichander is producing the movie.  Sources close to the unit say that the film will be completely ready by the end of the year and is likely to hit screens for Pongal in 2014, as it involved a heavy post production.

Vikram will be sporting two different looks for Shankar’s I and recently he went to China to reduce 5 kg. It is heard that one of the look is beefed up, well toned look with 125 kg weight and another is lean 45 Kg look. Now it has come to know that Vikram was spotted in the city with a completely shaved head, leading to believe that the tonsured look too is going to be part of Shankar’s ‘I’.

Amy Jackson is the heroine and she plays the role of an international model. Suresh Gopi and Ramkumar play pivotal roles.  Bodybuilding champions M. Kamaraj and M. Arasu will also play prominent roles in this flick. The film is reportedly made with an whopping Rs. 80 crores budget.

AR Rahman is scoring the music while P C Sriram cranks the camera. Peter Ming of China along with Anal Arasu will choreograph the action scenes. The film will have dialogues written by Suba (Suresh and Bala) while Rising Sun Pictures (RSP) (of Harry Potter fame) will oversee the VFX works. Mary Vogt of "Men in Black" fame will be the costume designer.

While the business circles are claiming that it's a big doubt whether a film of Rs. 80+ Crore will be able to do spin the profit in spite of having Shankar brand. Meanwhile, the sources mention that the shooting of this film has been stalled due to some financial issues. The next schedule of this film has been pushed to July 1 and Aascar Ravichandran is heavily worked on to sort about the financial constraints.

Vikram is vigorously hitting gyms to shed 15 Kgs and Shankar is in Bangalore involved in the script discussions for his upcoming film.

Neram

Ever since his Thattathin Marayathu became a hit with youngsters, Nivin Pauly joined the ranks of new age actors with promise in Malayalam cinema. Neram is his latest, released last week in Malayalam, now being released in Tamil. The movie follows the latest tradition of movie making with slickly cut scenes, thumping music and an all-young star cast with a story that is imaginative enough.

Directed by debut director Alphonse Putharen whose earlier stints include ad film making, Neram is about an unemployed youth who has borrowed heavily from a loan shark. The movie portrays Nivin's travails in repaying the money while engaging in a romance with Nazriya Nazim.

Nivin and Nazriya are joined by Thambi Ramaiah, Nassar, John Vijay, Charle and Simhaa. Neram is scored by Rajesh Murugesan and the songs are already quite popular in Malayalam. Alphonse himself handles the editing of the movie. Releasing this weekend all over, distributed by Red Giant Movies, Neram will be poised to cash in on the popularity of indie movies that are in rage now

EXPECTATION METER
When Amaithi Padai released in 1994, it created huge ripples in the industry for its politically incorrect content. It also brought to fore the Sathyaraj - Manivannan combination, both actors capable of political satire unlike any other names in the industry. Now, after almost 20 years of its release, Manivannan is directing a sequel to his legendary political drama with Sathyaraj in the lead.

Sathyaraj is returning with his Amavasi role, also as the title role of the film. Manivannan also plays the sidekick Manimaran. Thus the combination is returning to possibly serve some nasty one-liners and witty wisdom on how to conduct politics. The cast list also includes Seeman, Raghu Manivannan, Mrudula Murali, Komal Sharma, Varsha Ashwathi, MS Bhaskar and Vaiyapuri.

The movie's music is composed by James Vasanthan. Incidentally, Nagaraja Cholan also is the 50th film for Manivannan as a director and 200th film for Sathyaraj. Produced by S. Ravichandran and K. Suresh for their banner V House production, the movie is being released all over this weekend.

Shot extensively in Tamil Nadu, especially in and around Coimbatore, Nagaraja Cholan is expected to be a snarky political drama with a no-holds-barred Sathyaraj and Manivannan keeping him company. It is now only days away to find out if the duo can spark yet another magic at the box office.
